The open chess tournament «Governor’s Cup» will take place from 30 August till 8 September in the open «Ugra-Athletics» stadium of Khanty-Mansiysk for the 7th time.

The FIDE rated tournament is a 9-round Swiss in accordance with FIDE Regulations. There will be 130 chess participants from 8 countries including 40 Grandmasters and more than 20 International Masters in the open tournament of the VII Governor’s Cup. So far this is the strongest Cup in the history of this tournament and one of the strongest stages of the Russian Cup 2011.

All chess players who wish to participate, not depending on their rating and title, have a right to play in the tournament. The winners and prize-holders of the Governor’s Cup of overall ranking and nominations will be determined in accordance with the score.  In case of equal score Buhgolts and progress coefficients, number of wins and personal games will be calculated. The winners of the tournament will be awarded with diplomas, cups and money prizes. The total prize-fund of the competition is more than 1.5 million rubles (charity means).

The organizers of the event are the Russian Chess Federation, the Government and the Department of Physical Training and Sport of Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug — Ugra. The Chess Federation of Ugra and AE (Autonomous Enterprise) «UGRA Mega Sport» are responsible to hold the tournament.

According to the regulations that the 2011 World Cup participants after being knocked out have a right to continue chess battles if they register to play in the Governor’s Cup before the start of the tournament.

Ugra Cup is the stage of the Russian Grand Prix in rapid chess will take place 9−11 September 2011, Khanty-Mansiysk.
