Russian Dmitry Jakovenko defeated the Georgian chess player Baadur Jobava twice thus having assured himself the ticket to the 4th Round of the World Cup.
The opponents spoke about the flow of the battles after the match at the press conference.
— Dmitry, what did you manage and not manage to do in this match? — In this match I managed to find more good moves than my opponent did. This is the reason I could win. If one takes a serious look at our games, one could say that the quality of the play left much to be desired.
— Baadur, the 3rd Round is your favorite one, isn’t it? — The most! At the previous World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk I lost to Alexander Grischuk in the 3rd Round. However, the battle with Grischuk was more persistent: if you remember, everything was decided only in blitz at that time. As Dmitry has already said, there was no breathtaking play this time. I was outplayed at every stage and I would not complain that I did not have enough luck. Once again I am congratulating Dmitry on his qualification to the next Round and I wish him to go forward after!
— Baadur, what is your estimation of Dmitry’s level at this tournament? — If he plays in the same way as he had played in the first game against me, then there are some issues to be discussed. He has to be more serious when preparing for his next opponent in the coming Round. In general, I see that if he gets into an appropriate shape, he will be able to go farther than the 4th Round.
— Dmitry, who is your next opponent? — The winner of the match Radjabov — Bacrot.
— Are there any preferences? — I guess that Radjabov’s position is close to the winning one now, that’s why my preferences are of no importance.
— What is the history of your mutual matches with Radjabov, who is more advantageous? — Teimour beat me in rapid chess at the ACP Cup in Odessa and, as for classical games, if I am not mistaking, the only victory was mine. And several games were drawn.
— Dmitry, I am going to ask you a question that you have never been asked before. How do you feel playing in Ugra with the support of your compatriots? — I have already answered it at the press-conference after the 1st Round.
— Was there any day when you did not have to answer this question? — Yes — only when there was no press-conferences! In general, I don’t face any problems at the World Cups and I have nothing to complain about.
— Baadur, you must be feeling sad to leave Khanty-Mansiysk that soon? — I am not leaving yet. I will be supporting my student Zherebukh.
