KHANTY-MANSIYSK AGAIN HOSTS THE WORLD CHESS CUP

[1]Khanty-Mansiysk again will become the capital of the world chess in late summer — early autumn this year. The tournament will take place in «the Ugorian Chess Academy», the modern citadel of intellectual kinds of sport in the very heart of Khanty-Mansiysk. This complex has already been involved in organization of international meetings — the 81th Congress and General Assembly of FIDE were held therein 2010 during the 39th World Chess Olympiad. The second ground involved in the organization of the tournament will be the Concert and Theater complex «Ugra-Classic», where the Opening Ceremony of Chess Cup will take place on August, 27.

The World Chess Cup 2011 is included in the World Championships Cycle of 2011—2013. The world championship is held in the capital of okrug not for the first time — similar competitions took place there in 2005, 2007 and 2009. The tournament has got the knock-out system. Only 4 playersin the last seventhround who would have wonthe previous rounds of 128 participants of the first round will be fighting for the pedestal.

Only qualifiedchess-players can participatein the competition:the World Champion, Semifinalists of the World Cup2009,the World Championamong women,the World Championamong juniors (under 20 years old) (2009 and 2010), 20 top players, ninety playersof ContinentalChampionships,as well assixnomineesof the FIDE Presidentand fournomineesof the local Organizing Committee.

2005 -Levon Aronyan (Armenia)

2007 -Gata Kamsky (USA)

2009 -Boris Gelfand (Israel)
